I use to teach students in a very friendly atmosphere because I believe, students these days, if you go with them with a friendly atmosphere, they will listen to you more precisely, but there should be a boundary for a friendship like they should not be made fun of the teacher because it is up to us how we control them inorder to not make any violent or harsh statement. If the student isn't listening to you, you should check how you can treat him or her, in order to make a brilliant student. More or less as far as my teaching is concern regarding academic career for them I had several students who are now teaching Maths and History in different places.
