The online teaching experience has made me more patient in the relay of relevant information to learners, whether in the high school age range or in adulthood. I first desire to find our what helps students to retain information.
Lessons are introduced such that students can understand the relationship of the information to the environment and society in general. Students learn to participate through discovery as they explore links to the scientific content. They learn to interpret the information by use of focused worksheets with inserted videos, doing simple projects or further online research. I cater for the different types of learners -the hands on with simple projects, the shy ones - by leading them to be more expressive in their speaking and writing. The planning and design of experiments is an important part of science where students are given opportunities to adapt existing experiments or to develop their own hypothesis.
In preparation of students for examinations, I do extra work in the vacation periods in teaching strategies for answering multiple choice, structured and extended response questions.
Students are also encouraged to set weekly goals in order to maintain focus. Remember the motto 'to fail to prepare is to prepare to fail'.
