Experience

  • Lead Teacher of Science (Jan, 2019Present) at Stephenson Studio School, Coalville
I am responsible for the development of the GCSE and BTEC Science courses where I ensure that departmental plans and schemes of learning are robust and fit for purpose. I aim to provide students with a focus on academic excellence which has a strong employability ethos which I believe is key in ensuring students experience success in the future.

Ensuring a high-quality learning experience lies at the heart of my planning and I have consistently demonstrated ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ teaching in lesson observations. Following my most recent lesson observations, I was praised for supporting students well in mixed ability classes by challenging the more able students and using suitably scaffolded activities to support the least able. Remote learning has been a big challenge of these Covid times and has provided an opportunity for innovative teaching. I have sought to ensure a good quality of education by using the immersive features on Microsoft Teams and Zoom such as live student feedback, sharing lesson resources and planning interactive lessons.
  • Teacher of Science (Sep, 2011Dec, 2018) at Secondary Schools, East Midlands, UK
I achieved QTS in 2011 from Loughborough University and have since taught in a range of schools across the East Midlands. In this time, I have gained pastoral and departmental management responsibilities and have grown into a well-rounded, reliable and driven Science Teacher with a specialism in Biology.

I believe in providing an enriching curriculum by extending the learning beyond the classroom and have seen how students can benefit from enrichment. Previously, I have worked with University of Leicester’s School of Geography to organise a series of lectures on Fossils and Evolution for Year 11 students at Stephenson Studio School. The students enjoyed the lecture and were further engaged in their Science lessons thereafter. Also, in previous roles, I have organised trips to the Natural History Museum and Cambridge University where students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of Physics workshops.
