I try to make the student understand exactly why/when to use a particular formula/concept and why should it be there in the first place. For example, thinking about what could be the proof of the L'Hospital's Rule in Calculus. Or finding the best method to factorize a cubic polynomial. Or why using the Kinematic equation: v = u + at is wrong in situations when the acceleration is not a constant. Or just spending extra time visualizing volumes of revolution in 3-D.
However, one also needs to move ahead with the syllabus while practicing problems. I try to understand each student's particular needs and move accordingly, laying emphasis on visual methods like graphing so that students can feel better.
I have taught Calculus 1, 2, 3 helping university students get good grades, and also taught students in Grade 6 - 12 in Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, SAT Maths and Kinematics.
I also teach subjects in Electrical Engineering, such as Digital Signal Processing, Digital Communications and Wireless Communications. My extensive industry experience helps me a lot here.
