Senior Lecturer and Consultant Surgeon (Feb, 2012
–Present) at University of Jaffna, Srilanka
I have seventeen years of work experience in the Medical field, including more than fifteen years of experience in the field of Surgery and gained expertise in a wide range of General, Orthopaedic, Genitourinary, Paediatric, Vascular, Trauma and Cancer surgery. I also have more than fifteen years of experience in teaching undergraduate medical students and postgraduate medical doctors, nursing students and students of Allied Health Sciences.
I am currently employed as a Consultant Surgeon and Head & Senior Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna and University Surgical Unit, Teaching Hospital Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Having entered into one of the best centers of learning in Sri Lanka as a Lecturer, I would like to progress in academic surgery. I am committed to Teaching and Research. Teaching has always been my passion and I’m very much interested in Medical Education. I have the ability to lead students to academic, professional, and personal success.
Being a trained surgeon and having been exposed to most of the surgical disciplines, I find teaching anatomy including clinical anatomy is more relevant and interesting. It also makes easier to emphasize the clinical relevance of learning anatomy and make the students enjoy the learning experience. I believe an integrated curriculum, which blends basic science and clinical concepts, in collaboration with faculty members provide an excellent platform for the students’ learning.
I have vast experience in multiple teaching methods including case-based instruction, large and small group teaching and discussion, lecture, demonstration, simulation, and team-based learning. I have been actively involved in Teaching of Anatomy at University of Jaffna as a Visiting Lecturer for several years.
