— About Me —

Hi there. My name is Jimmy. I have recently graduated from the University of Warwick with a First Class Honour in Chemistry and a Distinction in MSc Digital Chemistry at the Imperial College London. I currently work as a consultant at one of the Big Four. I am passionate about teaching and inspiring the next generation.

I have been a Maths & Chemistry tutor for more than 6 years. I am proud to say that I am the youngest employee of New Oriental Tech & Edu Group, the biggest private educational provider in China.

— My Experience —

I have taught more than 30 students in the past 6 years, and ALL of them went to their first-choice uni!! I once helped a student to boost her grade in A-Level Maths from E (47%) to A (87%)‼️‼️. I am sure the same miracle can happen to you? . I was raised in China, and I decided to go abroad when I was 17: went to a sixth form college in Cambridge. It wasn't easy to overcome the language barrier at the beginning, though I had obtained a certificate in C1 English (Advanced); however, I still managed to obtain 4 As in Maths and triple sciences. On top of this, I was awarded a Gold medal in UK senior Maths Challenge, and a Bronze in both Biology and Chemistry Olympiad. I hope my tenacity and story (yeah I am happy to tell you a bit more about my life as an ex-pat) can inspire you, and together we can make the miracle happen!

BTW, I am also very experienced in mentoring UCAS personal statements. I got two UCAS offers from the Imperial College London, and yet I declined them as I wanted to pursue a degree in pure Chemistry instead of Life Sciences. I also received an interview invitation from the University of Oxford. I will find your "X factor" and make your personal statement not only personal but outstanding! I will mentor your PS FOR FREE.

— My Approach —

1️⃣. First of all, I need to ask YOU what grade you need to achieve!

2️⃣. I will divide each lesson (apart from revision sessions) into the following sections:

- correcting homework (I will correct it prior to the class so that we won't waste any extra time)

- formal lesson (why bother -> learning objectives - > content)

- in-class exercise

- post-class checklist (I will do this the following day. We can fight the forgetting curve together as a team!)

3️⃣. I hope by now you're convinced that I am a super easygoing person (and professional, of course :) If you decide to choose me as your tutor, I'd like you to have the following materials ready before our first session:

- 1 x in-class notebook (I will check it weekly)
- 1 x post-class notebook (more like a cheatsheet. I will check it on a monthly basis and give some feedback)
- TONS of line papers. You can't study maths & science without doing pen & paper stuff, can you?

I also like to incentivise my students to work harder! If you: 1). make big progress in a school test (e.g. go from D to A); 2). get the grade you need for your course, I will send you a gift for free. (spoiler alert: it will be a book that I think it would be beneficial for your future development)

I also speak 4 languages: Chinese Mandarin??, English??, Taiwanese (Hokkien)??, Italian??(advanced level, et un peu de français (au niveau A1) ??. I am happy to give lessons in any of these languages!
