I have a huge passion for teaching mathematics. It is a subject I feel I entirely confident in, and this reflected in my ability to teach in a simple, yet a highly effective way to provide my students all standards and abilities. Over the years, I have built an extensive experience that has given me a variety of teaching methods I can quickly draw upon to meet the needs of my students. I have excellent communication skills; I am flexible, consistent, patient and I am reassuring and I use simple methodologies to the subject in question.
Teaching is a rewarding yet difficult career, particularly when trying to teach math and compete with the many forms of instant entertainment and gratification available to students. By choosing to teach math, I knew that I would routinely come across students who were reluctant to engage because they don't see the relevance of math or they struggle with it. with reluctant students, I think there are many techniques that can be used, depending on the personality of the student. For example, I had a student who was struggling with the concept of area. I knew this students enjoyed playing Minecraft, and I used Minecraft to connect with the student and showed him how to calculate the area of a shape in a practical way that he could relate to. That wouldn’t work for every student, but I believe that by building relationships and getting to know my students, I can connect with them and help them understand math.
