The talent of teaching has always been with me as it was the only way I could learn and understand concepts without cramming my notes. I also had a craze with teaching as I felt teachers understand and know everything. I have been taught by several different teachers and every teacher has a unique way of relating to their students, some of the ways of relating to students worked others not that well. “What kind of teacher do I want to be in future?”, I always ask myself. How do I make meaningful contribution to the education of growing children all around the world? These are the questions that led me into the path of teaching. Over the years, I have spent time training myself to understand students and have learnt how to differentiate but at the same time integrate all students so no one is left out. For most people students should be satisfied once the teaching is done however they fail to understand that two (2) things are happening; teaching and learning and to become the best, your focus must be on the learning and not just the teaching.
Whether in the classroom or in meeting groups of the general public, my primary goal is to encourage thinking in logical ways, so that this can be applied in other, unfamiliar situations. I place particular emphasize on learners to think about trends and directions, rather than rote memorization of facts. My teaching skills has move from the previous thinking of the teacher knows it all and so the teacher has become a “sage on a stage” to more of the teacher being a “guide on the side” to help students formulate their own learning. When I need to tease the learning out of students, I sometimes become the “meddler in the middle”, using tangential and contradicting question to help them appreciate the concept of learning to acquire knowledge. With my experience in teaching students from over 40 different nationalities, I am very confident in devising strategies to assist students with different challenges.
In SOS-Hermann Gmeiner International College I was in charge of 50 boys from 18 different countries as their Hostel Tutor (Student resident) and based on my firm yet friendly demeanor, students always trusted me to fair during discussions on conflict or student behavior. Currently, I teach in Al-Rayan International School (ARIS) which is an all-inclusive school. My experience teaching students with learning disabilities makes me an all-rounded teacher perfect for every learning environment. I engage with student both inside and outside the classroom and my ability to spot and assist struggling students in subjects not related to physics and mathematics is commendable.
I am professional, hardworking and a wonderful asset to every learning space.
