My approach to teaching is transformative in nature, adopted from Paulo Freire's pedagogy which employs dialogue as a style and the problem posing methodology. I prepare "codes", in other words teaching/ learning material or media about the concepts to be taught. Codes could be songs, pictures, posters, sketches, videos, to mention just a few. I use codes to initiate dialogue on the subject of discussion. Using such an approach, the opinions of each learner remain respected and valued as opposed to the traditional "banking" method which disregards individual students' independent perceptions and indoctrinates in students, another person's thoughts. Classes are not photocopying pools that replicate multiple copies of the same image. Liberating education should take a dialogical pedagogy which should raise critical consciousness in learners. Learners own their learning process and become creative, innovative, industrious and contribute in their unique way to the sustainable development trajectory in their communities. I am an open minded teacher with an emotive skill of empathy towards students. Teaching is my passion. It is more than just a profession and carreer, it is a calling and a vocation where many might be called but only a few are chosen.
