Learning a foreign language is undoubtedly challeging. Whether, one is learning it as part of a formal education, or to enhance personal communication skill, a native teacher would be an ideal choice, but a non-native teacher would be the RIGHT choice. The reason being they understand the basic challenges foreign students face, and focus on that.
Over the years,as a teacher i have never stuck to a pre planned lesson, because each student/batch of student is different. Hence, the approach in helping them in learning english has had to be customised. But, of course, having said that, an overall syllabus is there, and has got to be covered, NOT the technique, or the approach.
Most of the time, i have had to venture out of the fixed syllabus, whether it was teaching the english general paper to AS and ALevel or IELTS to students preparing to pursue higher studies abroad. No one particular tecnique nor duration applies to all. Sticking to the syllabus in its entirety makes learning not only slow, but difficult for non-native. Therefore various other forms are a MUST to aid learning.
In a nutshell, progressive, fun and individually customised style to teaching is my forte. My charge might be high, but there again" You pay peanuts, and you'll get monkeys".
