College major to choose when no specific interest

Earlier, we discussed how to chose a college major or a school stream when you are interested in a particular field but are confused due to opportunities.

This post is for people who don't specific interest in any field.

If you are still reading, I would assume you are one of those who are clueless because of so many options and no particular interest.

It's OK. You are not alone. In fact, you are in the majority - not that it's a good thing but still, you are in the majority.

If you are good at few things

Most people are good at something. If there's one subject that you are particularly good at, chose that or a field which requires more of that.
This has two advantages:

  1. It will keep you relatively happy.
  2. It may lead to opportunities which are in that field or something related.

It's a fact - It's easier to become passionate about things you are naturally good at.

Therefore, if you chose a field in which you are good at, there's a good chance you will enjoy your career in it, or at least not hate it.

In the mean time, this will also allow you to gain more skills and a chance to switch to something else if you decide to go in a different field altogether.

If you are good at many things

If you are good at many things, congratulations - it's a good problem to have. However, the decision for you also is not that easy.

If you are good at many things, chose Maths. Maths is, now, literally the gateway to any profession. Every profession needs mathematicians, statisticians, and people with logic.

Whether it's Programming, Science, Engineering, Logic, Commerce, Stock market, management, and even Arts. Mathematicians are required everywhere. Even if you don't apply the skills directly, the logic muscles you develop while dealing with mathematical problems are widely applicable to different fields.

What are your thoughts on choosing a study stream?
