Our Story

2009 – Development began on a cold November morning in London at 3 AM, starting with TutorIndia.

2010 – TutorIndia launched for Indian tutors.

2013 – TeacherOn's first version went live for online tutors globally.

2016 – Our current platform launched, serving both online and local tutors worldwide.

Why We Do Things Differently

We've learned that completely open systems, while well-intentioned, can harm the very people they're meant to help. When we made teacher contact details public on our earlier platform, female teachers received inappropriate calls, and students were overwhelmed with hundreds of responses to single requests.

Our solution: Create meaningful engagement barriers that deter bad actors while keeping the platform free for genuine users.

Quality Over Quantity

We require teachers to complete comprehensive profiles with at least 100 words describing their teaching methodology. While 46% of teachers don't complete this step, those who do create compelling profiles that help students make informed choices.

This approach taught us something important: when you expect higher quality and hold people to high standards, they rise to meet those expectations and often exceed them.

Balanced Access

Students can contact three teachers for free, with optional paid access for additional connections. Teachers receive student inquiries at no cost and can apply to many jobs for free. This balance keeps the platform accessible while preventing abuse.
