Hi, I'm Vignesh Govindharaj, and I thrive at the intersection of programming, remote sensing, and GIS data handling with extensive experience in image processing across various domains including microwave, multispectral, hyperspectral, aerial, and terrestrial photographs. Over the course of my career, I've spearheaded numerous projects covering a diverse range of applications.

Some of the notable projects I've undertaken include close-range photogrammetry, shoreline management, ship detection, oil spill detection, bathymetry, potential fishing zone identification, land use and land cover classification, flood inundation modeling, network analysis, morphometry analysis, site suitability analysis, crop suitability assessment, forest fire monitoring, road network planning, usability and economic growth analysis, and coal mine exploration.

One of my significant achievements includes developing a sophisticated model in MATLAB to digitize and track ocean waves, akin to vehicle tracking systems. Furthermore, I've proficiently written numerous programs in MATLAB and Python to streamline day-to-day tasks and enhance project efficiency.

  • Scientist (Dec, 2022–Present) at Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Centre
    1. Developed and currently maintaining an automated GIS tool for the Small Vessel Advisory Service (SVAS), aimed at identifying high-risk areas for small vessel capsizing along the Indian coastline. Implemented algorithms to define risk zones within each offshore coastal district and calculate distances from the coast. Generate and disseminate advisory messages for Indian coastal districts based on SVAS data, ensuring timely delivery via web platforms.
    2. Developed a dedicated GIS website for SVAS.
    3. Enhanced and optimized the Automated Monthly Statistics Algorithm for SVAS, improving both accuracy and reliability.
    4. Developed an automation tool to generate and send Potential Fishing Zone advisories messages to users in their native languages.
    5. Created an automation tool to blend IMD virtual wind data with ECMWF wind data during cyclone events, improving storm surge model inputs and enhancing the prediction of coastal inundation.
    6. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support the development of ocean forecast services, aligning with organizational objectives and technological advancements.
    7. Contributed inputs to the INCOIS Vision 2047 initiative.
