Gene PMP-Certified Chemistry Graduate, Medical Student
No reviews yet

Hello! I'm Gene, a medical student with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in both STEM and the humanities. I earned my degree in Chemistry from the University of Tokyo with specializations in Sustainability and Cybersecurity. I also hold a TESOL certificate from Arizona State University Global Launch. I also hold a CAPM and a PMP certification from the Project Management Institute.

My academic journey began in a science high school, where I learned that academic success is not just about memorizing information but about truly understanding concepts and applying them. This experience led me to develop my own study systems for tackling difficult subjects, and those same strategies now shape how I teach today.

I have experience tutoring students across a wide range of subjects, particularly in the sciences, and I also worked as an English conversation teacher in Japan for a year. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly, adapt to different learning styles, and support students from diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels.

I provide tutoring across multiple subjects, especially in STEM, along with focused preparation for the SAT, ACT, TOEFL, and IELTS. My background allows me to support students in both the technical precision required in math and science and the analytical clarity needed for reading and writing.

My teaching approach is grounded in both pedagogy and lived experience. I use structured guidance, scaffolded learning, and clear step-by-step explanations to help students build understanding from the ground up. I begin using concrete examples to guide students toward abstraction while using teach-back techniques to reinforce mastery and confidence. I also adapt my methods to each student’s needs, because different learners thrive on different approaches. Having once struggled in a competitive science high school before eventually thriving, I understand and empathize with students who need guidance to reach their goals.

During high school, I won several nationwide academic competitions, including quiz bees in chemistry, physics, food science, and general knowledge. These experiences strengthened my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, which I now pass on to my students. At the same time, I believe that excess pressure does not lead to genuine learning, which is why I prioritize an encouraging and supportive environment in my teaching.

I understand that challenging material may feel overwhelming. My goal is to break complex topics into manageable pieces while helping students build confidence, independence, and a genuine understanding of what they are learning.

I look forward to supporting you in reaching your academic goals and making learning both effective and encouraging.

Fee details

    6501,500/hour (US$10.5724.40/hour)

My fee structure depends on the subject and level of instruction.

For reference, my standard rates are:
    • USD $10 (₱650) for middle school secondary-level subjects
    • USD $15 (₱900) for university and university-level (AP, IB) subjects

Each session includes a 60-minute focused tutoring session and notes/practice questions sent after each session upon request.

Exam-prep sessions may have a higher rate because they include preparatory materials, diagnostic assessments, or baseline reviews, targeted feedback, and item analysis, as needed.

For subjects that are computation- and problem-solving–intensive (such as mathematics and chemistry), I typically recommend a minimum session length of 90 minutes to ensure sufficient practice and concept mastery.
