I am Dr. Thangavel Sakthivel, hailing from Tamilnadu, India, where I nurtured my academic journey.
After completing my bachelor's degree in physics at Bharathidasan University, I furthered my education
with a master's degree in Nanoscience and Technology from Bharathiar University. Subsequently, I
achieved my Ph.D. in Nanotechnology from Karunya University, Coimbatore, India.
My doctoral research centered on the synthesis and characterization of cutting-edge semiconductor
nanohybrid materials such as Graphene, Graphene oxide, and Graphdiyne, showcasing their
applications in pivotal fields like photocatalysis, sonocatalysis, adsorption, and supercapacitors.
Furthermore, I enriched my academic journey by being a visiting doctoral scholar at Jeju National
University of South Korea (Nanomaterials & System Lab) during 2015-2016. This exposure catalyzed
my drive to engineer novel piezoelectric-semiconductor-based nanohybrids for enhanced photocatalytic
and supercapacitive performance.
After this, my academic pursuit led me to Taiyuan University of Technology, where I contributed as a
dedicated postdoctoral researcher. My endeavors encompassed the development of rare earth-doped
phosphors for advanced white light-emitting diodes. In 2019, I embarked on a new chapter at Xian
Jiaotong University, delving into the realm of novel two-dimensional materials to spearhead
advancements in electrochemical HER, OER, and ORR applications. Currently, I am deeply engrossed
in my role at Kumoh National University of Technology, South Korea, where I am leading a project
centered around the synthesis of surface-impurity-free transition metal chalcogenides via cation
exchange methods.
My career has been punctuated by fruitful collaborations across borders, uniting researchers from India,
China, Korea, and Japan, with the shared goal of pioneering novel materials with potential applications.
This collaborative spirit has translated into a substantial body of work, documented in over 60 peer-reviewed journals, including two influential review articles. Notably, six of my key publications have
garnered over 100 citations each, culminating in a total of 2506 citations and an impressive h-index of
28. In parallel, I am actively engaged as a valued reviewer for esteemed peer-reviewed journals,
contributing to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
I am proud to have successfully spearheaded two funded projects in China, a testament to my ability to
bridge research and practical application.
