I am Dr. Pitta Sekhar, an experienced Associate Dean & Professor with over 20 years of teaching Environmental Science & engineering. I also have teaching experience in Biology, chemistry and English, including international teaching experience (IGCSE – Maldives) and online teaching for IB Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS). I hold a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and am certified in PGET (Postgraduate Diploma in Education and Teaching) and TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), which enables me to effectively teach students from diverse backgrounds and different curriculum systems.
My experience includes teaching in areas such as Energy & Environment, Ecology & Biodiversity, climate change, Water, Air, Soil pollution & control, Waste management, Environmental engineering, Watersupply & Urban water management, Water treatment, Water and wastewater microbiology, Bioremediation, Environmental imapct assessment, Watershed management, and sustainable development.
My teaching style is student-centric, interactive, and application-oriented. I believe in fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on learning to ensure students grasp complex environmental concepts effectively.
Key Aspects of My Teaching Methodology:
Blended Learning Approach: Combining lectures, case studies, multimedia presentations, and field visits to provide a holistic understanding of environmental issues. Using real-world examples (e.g., climate change impacts, pollution case studies, sustainable water management) to make theoretical concepts relatable.
Research-Integrated Teaching:
Encouraging students to engage in mini-research projects, lab work, and data analysis to develop analytical skills. Incorporating my own research expertise into coursework to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Active Learning & Collaborative Techniques:
Group discussions, debates, and problem-based learning (PBL) to enhance engagement.Assigning real-life environmental challenges (e.g., designing a wastewater treatment model, assessing EIA for a local project) to promote teamwork and innovation.
Technology-Enhanced Education:
Utilizing GIS, remote sensing tools, and simulation software for practical training in environmental engineering. Integrating online learning platforms for assignments, quizzes, and interactive modules.
Mentorship & Academic Growth:
Providing one-on-one guidance for research projects, thesis writing (Ph.D./M.Sc.), and career development. Encouraging students to publish papers, attend conferences, and participate in workshops to build professional competence.
Results & Impact of My Teaching Consistently high student feedback scores for clarity, engagement, and practical relevance. Successful supervision of numerous Ph.D., M.Sc., and B.Sc. students, many of whom have pursued careers in environmental research, policy-making, and engineering.
