Everyone has something to teach; everyone has something to learn. I approach my learners with a humility and admissions of not knowing everything there is to know about the content I teach but confident that I know enough for them to learn from me. I model learning as a lifelong journey to my students with the hope of instilling that value in them. Where possible I give learners choice on what to learn so they recognise their intrinsic motivations. I employ a variety of activities to engage my learners' interests and make learning relevant to them by choosing content they can relate with.
When it comes to subject tutoring, I believe in aligning my teaching with what students are learning in school so tutoring assists their overall academics and isn't just extra work. With regards to language learning, I apply an immersion approach, surrounding my learners with the target language as much as possible. For example, when someone is learning Spanish from me, I will teach it to them in Spanish. Using this approach, my learners realise that language is merely a way to understand and be understood. Without worrying too much about fluency, they confidently start speaking the target language much sooner.
