I have lived in the US for the past 30 years or so; completed college- undergraduate (IS), graduate (MA Journ.) and worked in many fields. I am fluent in English, Malayalam, Hindi, and understand Tamil. I have moved back to India for a year for a writing project.

I can help you with understanding/speaking English for interviews or tests, or an overseas job, or regular everyday life.

The idea is to get comfortable with the language, just like any other routine task that you may do. Get past the initial awkwardness of speaking, which is natural for everyone learning a new language.

We can start with everyday scenarios, personal and professional, and move on to working on fluency, grammar and accent. Then comes workplace and other etiquette, and other "life" things- geography, clothes, currency, food, recreation, metro, cabs- everyday life. Comprehension and communication are key. Once you are comfortable speaking, you can always explain that you don't understand something or the other.

As a trainer, I like to work casually, with a flexible teaching pattern. If you find you need something more structured, we can plan our lessons accordingly. Watching movies and listening to music (of course, singing too) help. We can exchange dialogs, do mock interviews, role play, read recipes/menus, or just work on vocabulary and everyday phrases. So, Don't Worry, Be Happy, say something out loud in English. See, McFerrin has an accent too, but we understand him and the spirit of the song perfectly!
