Hi, I’m Katrina! I’ve been teaching chess for over five years, working with kids, teens, and beginners of all ages. I specialize in making lessons fun, easy to follow, and personalized to fit each student’s learning style. Whether you’re brand new to chess or looking to improve your strategy, I’ll help you build confidence and enjoy the game.

I also teach leadership and organization skills, using my experience working with students, running group activities, and managing teams in past jobs. My goal is to make sure every student feels included, supported, and successful in what they’re learning. I’m patient, flexible, and always willing to adjust lessons to help you get the most out of your learning experience.

Outside of teaching, I have years of experience working with kids in summer camps, after-school programs, and one-on-one lessons. I know every student learns differently, and I love finding creative ways to keep learning fun and stress-free. I’ve worked with students as young as five all the way up to teens preparing for competitions or school clubs.

Growing up, I faced my own learning challenges with ADHD and dyslexia, so I fully understand that learning something new can take extra time, patience, and different ways of explaining. Because of that, I’m really passionate about making sure my students feel heard and supported. I’m always ready to slow down, switch things up, or explain things in a new way so it finally clicks.

I’m very organized and dependable, but I also believe learning should feel comfortable, not pressured. I’m the kind of tutor who celebrates every win, no matter how small, and encourages students to keep going even when something feels tricky. My goal is to help you not just learn but actually enjoy the process.

If you’re looking for someone who is patient, encouraging, and committed to helping you succeed at your pace, I’d love to work with you!

Experience

  • San Francisco (May, 2024Mar, 2025) at PetSmart
At PetSmart, I worked in the Pet Hotel, where I was responsible for managing the daily care of dogs and cats. I kept track of feeding schedules, medications, and special care notes for every pet. I organized check-ins, walk schedules, and cleaning tasks to keep everything running smoothly. I often led other team members during busy shifts, making sure everyone knew their role and worked together to get everything done on time. This taught me how to stay organized, communicate clearly, and take the lead when needed to keep both pets and customers happy.
  • San Francisco (Aug, 2021Mar, 2025) at Academic Chess
Academic chess helps build critical thinking, focus, and decision-making skills through fun, educational lessons. I’ve taught for many years, working with students from elementary to high school. I always adjust my lessons to fit each student’s learning style, making sure everyone feels included and confident in their ability to improve.
