Whether geology is your true passion or just another subject in your graduate studies, your marks will ultimately decide future course for your career and that depends upon how thoroughly you grasp the basic concepts. A lot of people misunderstand the word "basics" with superficial study of any subject whereas true meaning of phrases "getting the basics clear" or "having the fundamentals strong" means going deep from the first lesson all the way to last chapter of your syllabus. Having basic clear means that you become so well versed with the subject that you quickly catch any printing error and become able to critically compare the strengths and weaknesses of description of same topic by different authors. I studied and greatly benefitted from great books and that's how I teach. We will study from wonderful books, will have great discussions that will enhance and stay in your knowledge base for a very long time. Lastly, I can promise you that having built a solid foundation, you will always score better than your own expectations in every competitive exam.
