My strong believe is that the dynamic of the world is continuously changing and the needs of the students of today will not be same of those students who will be with me in coming years and thus have a strong belief that technology should be considered a tool that facilitates and enhances instruction of the content in the classroom. It also exposes students to real-world skills that will be used in future levels. Informative slideshows to the related topic, three-dimensional images, bioinformatics are some of the aspects where I prefer using technological advancements. Usually, I try to conduct quizzes/practicing activities etc. by online mode. Online classes are one of the few things I introduced which is a discussion forum that help reticent students to add their perspective to lesson plan without feeling intimidated. During these sessions I encourage students to share related information, interesting articles which help in enrichment of the topic.
Striving to stimulate students’ critical thinking skills and intellectual growth in order to set the stage for lifelong learning opportunities is goal of my teaching. Various branches of biology require different methods of teaching, for example, when teaching classical zoology, I prefer showing images/model organism/specimen etc. in the class so that students should learn to differentiate and recognize various species. While teaching genetics, I involve simple mathematical tricks or introducing them to some applied concept of physics. Assigning students simple task as homework, such as making assignments, small power point presentations, collecting samples of various species for identification also enhance students in their learning process.Usually before starting class, I prefer brief recapitulation of the background knowledge the students about the topic by asking them related questions or general discussions, so that students could connect to the present class.
My favourite event in teaching occurs when the class subject matter leads to classroom discussion. I encourage every student to participate in the discussion and if they have any misconceptions, I worked with them and make sure that they understood the concept.
