I am Dr. Madurai Shanmuganathan Othuvar, the 21st generation hereditary Othuvar of the world-renowned Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. I hold a PhD in Carnatic Music and am currently a faculty member at a Tamil Nadu Government Music School.
I have been honored with the prestigious titles of 'Thirumurai Kalanidhi', 'Thirumurai Isai Arasu', and 'Thirumurai Isai Selvar' by the Dharumapuram Adheenam. With the experience of performing in over 400 Kumbabishekams and conducting programs in 10+ countries including Australia, Canada, and Singapore, I offer authentic and traditional music education.
My classes are focused on authentic rendering and purity of pronunciation. I teach:
Thirumurai: Learning the holy hymns in their original ancient 'Panns'.
Carnatic Vocal: Systemic training from basic to advanced levels.
Theory & Meaning: I explain the deep spiritual and literary meaning of the songs to help students connect with the music.
I currently have many students from Australia and Canada, and I am comfortable teaching online via Zoom, Google Meet, or WhatsApp
