I start teaching a student after cross checking his/her performance in all over subjects to find his/her weak point..Secondly,start by encouraging them or remove the fear of that particular subject in them because some student are smart but the teacher in charge of the subject might the reason they are not coping well for one or two reasons.Then,proceed to the basic operation of the subject and aligning it to something that has to deal with reality or things they see often or stories that is in the line with the subject.All my students cope very fast
