My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that architectural and planning education should empower students to think critically, design responsibly, and engage meaningfully with the social, cultural, and environmental contexts of the built environment. I see the classroom and studio as collaborative spaces where curiosity is encouraged, experimentation is supported, and failure becomes a tool for learning. In my teaching practice, I emphasize process over product. I encourage students to explore diverse design methodologies — from hand sketching to digital modeling — to develop both technical proficiency and conceptual depth. I integrate real-world issues such as sustainability, urban resilience, and inclusivity into design briefs, ensuring that students connect academic inquiry with the realities of professional practice. I also value interdisciplinary learning and often draw connections between architecture, planning, and allied fields such as sociology, ecology, and technology. This helps students develop a holistic understanding of how design influences and is influenced by broader systems. As a teacher, I aim to be both a facilitator and mentor — guiding students to discover their own design voice while fostering collaboration, dialogue, and reflection. I use a mix of teaching methods, including studio critiques, site-based learning, and digital tools such as BIM and GIS, to enhance engagement and adaptability. Ultimately, my goal is to nurture architects and planners who are not only skilled designers but also critical thinkers and responsible citizens — individuals capable of shaping spaces that are innovative, inclusive, and sustainable.
