Hello there. My name is Julia Marbella from the Philippines. You can call me Ms. or Teacher Julia.
Foundational learning is my focus. My teaching philosophy for this is based on using five senses and learning style individuality.
Memory recall comes from different sense. You see a good picture of food and you feel hungry. You smell garlic and sesame oil, and you start to salivate. You hear the crackling sound of deep frying and you crave. You touch a rough surface and think of crispiness. You eat fried chicken and you remember the best one you had. We will try to incorporate as much of your senses as we can to help increase your ability to retain what you've learned. Through this we will find a learning style that would suit your individual needs and will be of use to you not just in one subject but in everything else.
As someone who is trained in Digital and Traditional Visual Arts, I can provide learning materials that would otherwise not be seen in a classroom.
Learning style is not just about memory, it is also about school habits. You may work much better studying hard before an exam, or you may not function well under such stress and would like a more relaxed exam week so you prepare a week before. Playing games or listening to music might help retain what you've learned, or it could erase all your hard work. What works for one smart person will not automatically work for another.
Emotions also affect your ability to focus and learn. If you need to cry, shout, complain or something about school subjects (this one or something else) or about something unrelated, go ahead. There is no judgement here. Your negative emotions need to happen so we can move to the more positive ones needed for learning.
My style of teaching has been tested on my niece whom I have tutored from K to grade 3. Now she is in high school has moved to the US and is now on an Ivy League track. We have had several times when she cried for 30 mins because school was hard and there have also been times when she herself would ask for harder problems without any suggestion from me.
The end goal of my tutoring would be that you won't need me anymore because we have built a strong enough foundation that it won't be shaken even if changes in your life happen.
