Just to give you one example - if a questions asks you - price of an item goes up by 20 % and then goes down by 20 %, is the new price more or less ?

A quick way to solve this - start with 100 - goes up by 20 % so becomes 120.
Then goes down by 20 % (be careful now) it is 20 % of 120 so now it goes down by 24 . So new price is 120 - 24 = 96 . So final price is less than the original price. :) Simple.
