I have worked with children with learning disabilities and JEE and NEET toppers. Adapting to the student's pace and need while nudging them to gradually improve is not a novel method but the simplest one for long term and sustainable learning. Once brought into practice, the student could very well achieve the same learning outcomes by themselves.

Paying attention to the student's learning style, ways of thinking and patterns of hits and misses give me a reasonable understanding of what would and what won't work. Proceeding from there with a scientific method is almost guaranteed to produce results.
