About Me
Hi, I'm Joanne! I'm a UK qualified teacher with 26 years of experience helping students actually understand their subjects, not just scrape through exams.

I work with learners across a wide range, from young coders aged 6 to 12 taking their first exciting steps with Scratch, right through to A Level students preparing for high stakes exams. I specialise in Computer Science, Business Studies and Economics, and have taught CIE and Edexcel IGCSE and A Level curricula across UK and international schools.

Most recently I was Head of Computing at a school in Tenerife, rated Outstanding in both the 2023 and November 2025 inspections. During my time there, my students achieved 100% A* to C grades for eight consecutive years. I'm proud of that record, but what I'm proudest of is the students who told me they finally got it.

I'm patient, encouraging and invested in every student I work with. No two learners are the same, and I adapt everything to the individual, because a one size fits all approach rarely gets the best results.

Whether you're a parent looking for engaging, confidence building computing lessons for your child, a student facing an upcoming exam, or a professional wanting to sharpen your Business English, I'd love to help. Send me a message and let's have a chat.

My Teaching Approach

Every lesson starts with you, your goals, your gaps, and what you need to move forward with confidence.

I don't believe in talking at students. My lessons are interactive, focused and always tailored to where you actually are, not where the textbook assumes you should be.

For Computer Science (IGCSE and A Level): we work through everything from Python programming and AI/Machine Learning to algorithms, data structures, networks and cybersecurity, always connecting theory to real world examples so it actually sticks. Exam technique is built in throughout, not bolted on at the end.

For Business Studies and Economics: I focus on building the analytical thinking and structured writing skills that turn solid knowledge into top marks, including mastering the extended response and evaluation questions that so many students find daunting.

For Primary Computing (ages 6 to 12): lessons are hands on, playful and creative. Using Scratch and Scratch Junior, young learners build games, animations and stories whilst developing genuine computational thinking skills. No experience needed, just curiosity!

For Business English: whether you need to write professional emails, present ideas confidently or navigate workplace communication in English, I'll help you find the right words and use them with confidence, drawing on my background teaching Business at international level.

No question is too small. No goal is too big. Let's get started!

Undeniably I recommend this tutor!

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our English teacher Joanne Matthews for the outstanding work and dedication shown in teaching my son.
When my son first started lessons, his level of English was practically zero. Thanks to the teacher’s professional approach, patience, and well-structured lessons as a result of this excellent teaching, my son successfully achieved a Grade 6 in his IGCSE English exam. This is an incredible result, especially considering where he started from.
Today, my son is studying successfully at an English school, and I strongly believe that this became possible only thanks to the teacher’s competence, support, and ability to motivate and inspire him. The teacher managed to build his confidence and prepared him for high results in English language exams.
We are truly grateful for such a professional, thoughtful, and dedicated approach. I would highly recommend Joanne to anyone who wants real progress, strong exam preparation, and a genuine interest in English for their child.
