Promoting positive change in the world has always been my definitive goal in life; I believe that the role of an educator is the greatest responsibility one can hold for the development of a child’s mind with the right values, skills and abilities thereby contributing toward success in their adult lives.
I hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham, a General Bachelor of Arts Degree in Humanities from Queen’s University and a Joint Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Media and Communication Studies from Nottingham Trent University. All of my educational experience has allowed me to engage in critical thinking, research and analysis, all essential to the teaching profession.
In terms of employment, I am currently freelancing as an English and Maths Tutor both in-home and online through a variety of virtual platforms to students of various age groups. I utilise a variety of interactive tools and differentiated teaching strategies to engage learners, build confidence and ensure effective progress whilst being student-centric. Prior to that I worked as a Primary Years Programme Teacher with The Vale School Muthaiga and interned with the Aga Khan Academy Nairobi for four months as an Assistant PYP Teacher in a grade three, four and five classrooms, taking on a primary role in the absence of the classroom teacher. Whilst undergoing the PGCEi Master’s Level Course, I interned at The Premier Academy School two days a week in a grade four classroom for the entire academic year. All these teaching experiences have exposed me to a range of teaching strategies, strengthened my knowledge and practice and enhanced my confidence, patience and organisational skills. My role as a Public Relations Manager at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel for four years allowed me the opportunity to be both creative and independent. The job further developed my communication skills through interacting with a broad spectrum of people from diverse cultures regularly. This role also strengthened my ability to work alone and plan and manage my time efficiently. With my responsive thinking, patience and sensitivity, self-motivation and enthusiasm, I want to pass on all that I have learnt to others. Together with my caring, friendly, and compassionate nature, I know that my strength of character, patience, good communication and time management skills, all essential to the role of an educator, will assist me to advance and thrive in any teaching space.
