This week we will incorporate a spiritual exercise along with the reflection and discussion. Be sure that you have read chapter 6 of Sue and Sue on cultural and racial microaggressions before beginning this exercise.

Find a quiet space where you can spend time with the Lord. Spend at least 30 minutes in prayer with the following focus:

(10 minutes) Search your heart for memories of when you have encountered microaggressions in your own life. Recount those experiences to the Lord. Ask the Lord to help you become aware of those hurts that you have experienced and allow Him to help you process those—how did you feel? What did you think? What do you think and feel now about those experiences?

(10 minutes) Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of times when you have committed cultural and racial microaggressions against others. Confess those times that you have perhaps hurt or judged others, either intentionally or unintentionally.

(10 minutes) Again, in prayer before the Lord, remember times that you have observed microaggressions against others. How did you feel? What did you think when those occurred? What are your thoughts and feelings now? Ask the Lord to help you be sensitive to the judgment and oppression of others.

After your time of reflection and prayer, write your initial post on this experience. Share what you feel comfortable sharing. Address the following areas in your post, using approximately 350-400 words.

1. What was this prayer experience like for you? (Was it easy, difficult, did you find it hard to focus, were there distractions, did you have a meaningful experience, etc.)

2. What memories surfaced for you in any or all of these categories?

3. What, if any, new insights did you experience?

4. In what other areas could you use prayer to help you develop and grow in your multicultural awareness?
