My philosophy of teaching is based on a belief that everyone is capable of learning. Although different people have different learning style like some learn best by listening to other as in lecture atmosphere, some are motivated by discussion, and some understand best when they read and reflect on what they have read. An ambiance of a lecture can support or restrain learning depending on the preferred learning style of each student. Thus facilitating different learning styles can develop an atmosphere that is favorable to learning for everyone. The passion and interest of a lecturer in the subject also increases the student’s curiosity and effort to learn in that class.
My duty as a professor is to create such comfortable atmosphere for students that will promote learning. Providing necessary material, showing short interesting clips and sharing various examples related to topic not only make it easy for students to understand the presented concept but also facilitate them correlate the information with their area of life too.
I usually experiment with different methods and means of presenting information to classes in order to improve the learning atmosphere created for students. Like, a general study proves that more sense organs we use for learning better retention of information happens. Based on this ideology, I involve students in listening, watching, reading and writing the information which surely facilitates their further understanding.
Lastly, a concept which I personally follow, want to impart in my students too, that learning process never stops as it includes a perpetual improvement personally and professionally because not knowing something is not a matter of insult but not wanting to know is a matter of ignorance and arrogance too.
