BA Linguistics, MA Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching (King's College, Cambridge)

I'm a native speaker of English with extensive experience as an IELTS Specialist. I have taught all levels of English Language (from Beginner to Advanced) for ten years.

SUBJECTS:

IELTS: Academic (Specialist)

IELTS: General

Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)

Cambridge English: First (FCE)

English as a Foreign Language (EFL/ESL) from Beginner to Advanced

QUALIFICATIONS

BA (Linguistics):

I studied a four-year degree in Linguistics and Arabic. I decided to study and performed exceptionally well in the modules relevant to Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, including three components dedicated to TESOL (TESOL 1, Language Awareness in TESOL and Critical Issues in TESOL) as well as Syntactic Theory, Phonological Theory, World Englishes and Second Language Acquisition.

CELTA (University of Cambridge):

After graduating, I immediately began my teacher training and obtained the CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Adults) from the University of Cambridge. This is a highly regarded and internationally recognised qualification in English Language Teaching and consists of an intensive training in teaching methodology, language skills and observed teaching practice. I studied a range of modules including Language Analysis and Awareness, Language Skills (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) and Developing Teaching Skills.

MA (Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching with DELTA)

In 2018, I started my postgraduate studies in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching at King’s College London. This Master’s programme was devised specifically for experienced language teachers wishing to engage with current research and theory in language education and linguistics in the English Language Teaching profession. The course offered me an excellent opportunity to enhance my understanding of applied linguistics research, and I was able to benefit from a wide range of specialist subject areas – such as: Linguistic Analysis for Language Teaching, Additional Language Acquisition, English for Academic Purposes, Language Assessment, The Digital ELT Classroom, Materials Development, and Principles and Practices in Foreign Language Teaching. I was fortunate enough to be nominated by my classmates and lecturers as the Class Representative for my cohort!

DELTA (University of Cambridge)

Having already acquired the CELTA, I plan to continue my teacher training next year with the DELTA (Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), also from the University of Cambridge. This course is a component of my Master's and is designed for experienced teachers. It consists of specialist modules such as: Understanding Language, Methodology and Resources for Teaching, Developing Professional Practice, Extending Practice and ELT Specialism, English Language Teaching Management, etc.

Professional Development:

I am always keen to learn and develop my teaching skills by taking part in training courses and webinars such as: How To Teach IELTS, Teaching Grammar, Teaching With Technology, Lesson Planning and Classroom Management, etc.

SCHOOL EXPERIENCE:

I have taught at several leading private language schools in Central London, as well as various secondary schools in South London. I also worked as Head of ESOL at an outstanding independent school in Croydon.

I have taught all levels of General English (Beginner to Advanced), as well exam preparation classes such as Trinity College London: GESE. Throughout this time, I have become an expert in Speaking and Pronunciation - I taught the highly successful free Conversational English class (all levels) daily, which was the most popular course at the school.

I have gained ample experience teaching large groups (up to 30 students), as well as delivering one-to-one lessons to tailor individual students' needs (such as English for Specific Purposes, Business English, etc.)

I have acquired considerable experience teaching students of all ages (from young children to teenagers and adults) from all over the world.

UNIVERSITY EXPERIENCE:

I have worked at a number of universities in London (such as the prestigious Royal College of Art, and Ravensbourne University London) as Head of Academic English. I designed the curriculum, taught, and managed the programme for all international students to improve their Academic English, as well as the university’s summer Pre-Sessional English programme - which is an intensive course for prospective international students who need to drastically improve their level of English to study at university in the UK. Until now, I have a 100% success rate of ensuring all my students achieve the English language level they need to study at university in the UK.

PRIVATE TUITION EXPERIENCE:

Since I started working as a Private Tutor, the majority of my work has been IELTS Exam Preparation (Academic). I have taught a plethora of students from a variety of nationalities and backgrounds. Most of my students need the IELTS to study at university, while others need it either for work or for a UK Visa, as well as to emigrate to other English speaking countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

I use a variety of Official Exam Preparation Materials (written by IELTS Examiners) and Practice Tests to ensure my students are well prepared for their exams.

In addition to General English and Exam Preparation, I also provide Career Advice / Employment Coaching. I can offer CV workshops and can help you improve your interview skills and techniques, body language, etc. I have helped many of my students write Personal Statements for their successful applications to some of the top universities in the UK.

I am DBS Certified and teach Young Learners and Adults at all levels.

I have never had a student who has achieved less than a Level 7 in the IELTS exam - and I intend to maintain this record!

I am extremely lucky to have so many students from all over the world, such as Spain, Italy, Portugal, Venezuela, India and Vietnam! Most of them are professionals who work in a range of fields - doctors, nurses, veterinary surgeons, biologists, speech and language therapists, care workers, electrical engineers, etc. Most of them are preparing for the IELTS (Academic), which is what I mainly teach at the moment. Some need to improve each skill (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking) and others prefer to focus on one or two skills. My other students are currently preparing for the Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE).

I mainly teach one-to-one, although I have group classes twice a week.

I have taught students from all around the world and I am everybody's favourite teacher because teaching English is not just my job, it is my passion! I believe the best way to learn the language is by taking risks and having fun. My lessons are interesting but challenging, and I believe it is important to enjoy yourself when learning a language.

I will make you a confident speaker of English, and I am happy to focus on the skills you want to improve (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking). Not only will I significantly improve your Grammar and Vocabulary, I will also train you in each of the four skills so you can implement excellent Exam Technique and Strategy.

I am an expert in Pronunciation and my aim is to reduce your accent, so you can sound like a native speaker!

I am committed to the success of my students - if you work hard and follow my guidance, you'll certainly get the grade you need in your exam!
