I've been scaffolding all sorts of students all of these years in CBSE, GCSE and IB schools. Besides, since the last 5 years, I have been coaching adults in communication, media comprehension, expression and developing of personality traits to suit personal and professional goals.
To my mind, none of these can be 'taught'. They must be experienced along with a very open facilitator, for we're all learners in one way or the other.
My online students of literature and comprehension have always left the class with something to mull over, something to pat their backs about, and something to look forward to in the next lesson. I suppose it happens this way because they feel safe, nurtured and guided. Ditto for the ones who've attended personality development classes.
A housewife once replied to my question of "Who are you if not a mother, daughter, wife?" and she responded with "Nothing." I feel it is my single-most impactful interaction with a student. A 40-something individual, ending up feeling like a nobody is something that needs to change; and self-expression, comprehension of the world, the appreciation of literature are all some of the best tools to ensure that no one feels lost. And so, the ability to use language is a superpower, which I happily share with my students -- no matter the age and/or requirement.
