Since I was in highschool, I noticed I loved math and to learn foreign languages. I love teaching and being around young people. What I really like most is to see when a student understands and smiles, when the student finally gets it.
My opinion is that a student must learn math, because it teaches logic and critical thinking. It develops skills like thinking in an organized way and to face challenges, which at the end will ensure their success in college.
I also enjoy talking with young people and getting to know how they think, how they live, what their dreams for their future are. Through teaching, I am able to learn about other cultures and understand my own children.
Usually, I ask the students to explain what they do not understand and if they have any idea of how to attack the problem. I ask them about the concepts in the problem to help them understand the situation. If the problems requires a diagram, I think students learn visually easier than just hearing.
Afterwards, I ask the student to solve the problem if they can do it, or work with them step by step. At the end, I ask if they understood what we did.
