Hello! For most of my life I have remained in the world of dance and particularly, Bharatanatyam. This led me to take up the dance practice and teaching at a professional level. I currently work as an assistant professor of Bharatanatyam GITAM University, Hyderabad and am preparing to take up a research programme in the field of dance. My experience of learning from different teachers has allowed me to identify a style of practice and teaching for myself that is deep-rooted in the fundamentals and grows on with creative and holistic exploration. .
My teaching methodology would vary from student to student according to their ability and skills. I would prefer to handle a smaller number of students to allow them my fullest attention and guidance. I counterbalance the practical learning with theoretical aspects to create a coherent foundation.
I enjoy dancing and teaching dance and I hope that I can share this joy with my students, too. The experience of learning an art form is reflective and slow and I would not prefer any students who are in a hurry to reach a particular destination. I do not follow a conventional teaching style of rushing through songs and performances - I make sure the basics sit well with the students before I progress into a repertoire.
